There's only once Ohad mentioned in the Bible and he is a son of Simeon, Jacob's second born son with Leah (Genesis 46:10, Exodus 6:15). Ohad is one of the sixty-six proto-Israelites to make it into Goshen, Egypt, but that's all we know about him. He plays no further role in the Bible.

  • The plural noun הידות (huyyedot), meaning songs of praise.
  • The noun תודה (toda), meaning confession or praise.

From the verb הוד (hod), meaning to be praise-worthy, comes the noun הוד (hod), meaning splendor, majesty, vigor, glory or honor.

Jones' Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names ultimately derives it from יחד (yahad) and translates it with Joining Together. BDB Theological Dictionary doesn't offer an interpretation of this name but also hints at the verb יחד (yahad), meaning to be united or join.
