ישה

The verb ישה (yshh) isn't used in the Bible, so we don't know what it might have meant. Some scholars suggest it may have to do with verbs in cognate languages, meaning to assist or support, but BDB Theological Dictionary deems this dubious. Others say it may have meant to make equal, by giving another some of one's own property.

The only extant derivation of this verb is the feminine noun תושיה (tushiya), meaning wisdom or sound knowledge (Proverbs 3:21, Job 5:12, Isaiah 28:29). This word is not the regular word for wisdom — that would be חכמה (hokma) — and it appears that our word is used for the kind of wisdom or knowledge that results in some practical success: skill or craftiness.
