🔼The name Ziddim in the Bible
The name Ziddim occurs only once in the Bible. It's listed as one of the fortified towns of Naphtali, on the northern extreme of Israel (Joshua 19:35). This place was located near to Hammath (see 19:35), as was the Zedad mentioned by the prophet Ezekiel (Ezekiel 47:15). The names Ziddim and Zedad derive from the same verb, and it's not unthinkable that the two are the same.
🔼Etymology of the name Ziddim
The name Ziddim is a regular plural form of the noun צד (sad), meaning side, of the assumed root צדד (sdd):
צדד
The unused verb צדד (sadad) probably meant to turn away or shun. In the Bible only the noun צד (sad) is used, and it means side (of a person, town, mountain, and so on).
