🔼The name Nimrim in the Bible
The name Nimrim occurs twice in the Bible, both times in a prophetic passage directed at Moab, and each time connected to proverbially clear waters, which both Isaiah and Jeremiah foresee turning turbid (Isaiah 15:6, Jeremiah 48:34). Since Nimrim was a Moabitic town, it's often connected to Nimrah and Beth-nimrah, places on the east of the river Jordan.
🔼Etymology of the name Nimrim
The name Nimrim is a plural form of a noun derived from the illusive root נמר (nmr):
נמר
Noun נמר (namer) means leopard, the proverbially fast-running predator with the spotted pelt. It's unclear where this noun comes from but perhaps from a verb that means to glitter or that describes the purity of water.
