There are three Naamahs mentioned in the Bible:

  • The first is among the final generation descending from Cain, namely the daughter of Lamech and Zillah (Genesis 4:22).
  • Another Naamah is a wife of king Solomon and mother of king Rehoboam (1 Kings 14:21). This Naamah was an Ammonite.
  • The third Naamah is a town in Judah (Joshua 15:41), and possibly the hometown of Zophar the Naamathite, one of the locutionary friends of Job (Job 2:11).

The verb נעם (na'em) means to be pleasant, delightful or sweet. Derived nouns נעם (no'am) and נעמן (na'aman) mean pleasantness. Adjective נעים (na'im), means pleasant. The plural noun מנעמים (man'ammim) describes "sweets" or dainties. The adjective נעים (na'im) describes a soft or pleasant sound.
