🔼The name Mered in the Bible
The name Mered occurs only one time in the Bible, in a rather confusing passage. Mered is a son of Ezrah of Judah, who marries Bithia, a daughter of a Pharaoh, who bears him a passel of kids (1 Chronicles 4:17). But he may also have married another woman, who is either known as Jehudijah or simply "the Jewish one" (as opposed to the Egyptian one), who also bears him children. But who exactly is married to whom is not entirely clear. See our article on the name Jehudijah for a closer look at this conundrum.
🔼Etymology of the name Mered
The name Mered is identical to the masculine noun מרד (mered), meaning rebellion, from the verb מרד (marad), meaning to rebel:
מרד
