🔼The name Haruz in the Bible
The name Haruz is mentioned only once in the Bible, namely in 2 Kings 21:19, where a Haruz of Jotbah is recorded as the father of Meshullemeth, the mother of Amon, the son and successor of king Manasseh of Judah.
🔼Etymology of the name Haruz
The name Haruz is identical to an adjective meaning diligent or decisive, a noun meaning discernment and a noun meaning gold:
חרץ
The verb חרץ (haras) means to cut, carve or divide, mostly as attribute of a sharp mind. The adjective חרוץ (harus) means sharp (both of tools and of minds) or more specific: decisive and diligent, and particularly the kind of diligence that makes rich. The identical noun חרוץ (harus) means decision.
From a supposedly second verb חרץ (haras), which apparently means to be yellow, comes yet another identical noun חרוץ (harus), which is commonly translated with gold, but which probably describes intricately crafted gold artifacts (also since the much more common word זהב, zahab, denotes gold the material).
