🔼The name Ataroth in the Bible

There are two cities named Ataroth in the Bible:

  • A city built (or expanded) by the people of the tribe of Gad (Numbers 32:3 and 32:34; only in the latter verse spelled עטרת).
  • A city in the territory allotted to the tribe of Joseph, which subsequently became assigned to Ephraim, and which marked the border of the Archites (Joshua 16:2 and 16:7). This city is probably the same as Ataroth-addar.
