The name Achar occurs only once in the Bible. In 1 Chronicles 2:7 the author reminisces on the events described in Joshua 7, where Achan the son of Carmi takes forbidden items from the sacked city of Jericho and attracts the curse of God for Israel. For his deed, Achan and his family are executed in the valley of Achor, the name of which is closely related to Achar.
