יחל
The verb יחל (yahal) means to wait or wait for something (Genesis 8:12, Micah 5:6) and as such also means to hope for something (Isaiah 42:4, Job 29:21, Ezekiel 19:5). This verb yields two derivatives:
- The adjective יחיל (yahil), meaning waiting. This word is used only in Lamentations 3:26.
- The feminine noun תוחלת (tohelet), meaning hope (Proverbs 13:12, Lamentations 3:18).
