רחל
The very ancient word רחל (rahel), meaning ewe, occurs in several Semitic languages, all with the same meaning. We have no idea what the root of this word might be or what it may have meant.
Our word occurs four times in the Bible, in Genesis 31:38; Genesis 32:14; Song of Solomon 6:6; and most famously in Isaiah 53:7, "Like a sheep — רחל (rahel) — that is silent before its shearers, so did he not open his mouth".
