חרד
The verb חרד (harad) primarily means to shake and secondarily to tremble with fear or to be "anxiously careful" as BDB Theological Dictionary puts it. It's used to describe a mountain trembling (Exodus 19:18), being startled out of sleep (Ruth 3:8), trembling indignantly (Genesis 27:33), to come or go anxiously careful (2 Kings 4:13), or scare or terrify people into submission (Judges 8:12, Job 11:19, Jeremiah 30:10).
This verb's derivatives are:
- The adjective חרד (hared), meaning trembling or afraid (Judges 7:3, Ezra 9:4).
- The feminine noun חרדה (harada), meaning a trembling or fear (1 Samuel 14:15, 2 Kings 4:13, Daniel 10:7).
