באש
The verb באש (ba'ash) means to stink, mostly of dead and rotting corpses (Exodus 7:18, Ecclesiastes 10:1) or rotting living flesh (Psalm 38:5), and via the idiom "becoming odious", it means to abhor or be reprehensible (Genesis 34:30, Exodus 5:21, 1 Samuel 13:4, 2 Samuel 10:6), and may also describe an acting disgustingly (Proverbs 13:5). From this verb come:
- The masculine noun באש (b'osh), meaning stench (Isaiah 34:3, Amos 4:10, Joel 2:20). Note the somewhat similarity with בוש (bosh), to be ashamed.
- The feminine noun באשה (bo'sha), literally meaning stinking things and commonly interpreted as stinking or rotting weeds (Job 31:40 only).
- The masculine plural noun באשים (be'ushim), also meaning stinking or rotting things (Isaiah 5:2 and 5:4).
