אמץ
The verb אמץ ('ames) means to be or become strong. It may be used for individuals (2 Samuel 22:18) or nations (Genesis 25:33). It may reflect boldness (Joshua 1:9), firmness (Proverbs 8:29), encouragement (Job 16:5), assurance (Isaiah 44:14), obstinacy (Deuteronomy 2:30), and determination (Ruth 1:18). This verb's derivatives are:
- The masculine noun אמץ ('omes), meaning strength (Job 17:9 only).
- The feminine equivalent אמצה ('amsa), also meaning strength (Zechariah 12:5 only).
- The adjective אמוץ ('amos), meaning strong (Zechariah 6:3,7 only).
